Class of 2023: Kyra

We are in our countdown to the end of the 2022-2023 school year! It is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2023, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will share interviews with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: Kyra, ILS Class of 2023

1. How long have you attended ILS?

I’ve been at ILS since 7th grade- so almost 3 years.

2. What house are you in and was your favorite House competition?

I’m in Irenaeus, and my favorite House competition is probably Lutheran Schools Week. You get to dress up, and it is fun to do with all of your friends. One of my favorites was when we all dressed up as characters from “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” in 6th grade. I was Lucy.

3. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

I have a lot. My favorite one was probably 6th grade theology and history classes with Mr. Barnett. He told us all these stories about his friends, and how they talked to wolves.

4. What will you miss the most about ILS?

Mostly the people I have gotten close to. My friends, and also my teachers. We know all the teachers really well, and I won’t necessarily have that when I go to high school since it is bigger.

5.  How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

Miss Davis the 1st. I wasn’t really the best reader when I started at ILS, and she helped me so much through reading and not being scared. Also she helped me so much during orations. When I was in 6th grade, I didn’t know how to memorize anything, I was shaking and couldn’t breath. She just talked me through it and assured me that I could do it. She really impacted my courage and maturity, and it has been really awesome. And now I can volunteer to read and things like that.

6. Do you have a favorite Hymn of the Year or Verse for Memorizing?

My favorite verse is Deuteronomy 31:6:
”Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
