Class of 2023: Juliet

We are in our final countdown to the end of the 2022-2023 school year! It is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2023, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will share interviews with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: Juliet, ILS Class of 2023

1. How long have you attended ILS?

I’ve attended ILS since kindergarten. They’ve been great years.

2. What house are you in and was your favorite House competition?

I’m in House Augustine. My favorite competition is the Peeps Diorama, because you can use your creative skills to be imaginative. The Peeps Diorama competition is a scene made out of Peeps Marshmallows and craft supplies. The scenes are based on what we’re learning in classes and sometimes for things like, “Verse of the Year.”

3. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

My favorite memory is that during 4th grade, at every single recess, me and my friend Linden would go and ask our teacher Miss Leithart to tell us a story from her childhood. Most of the time she’d tell us something, but sometimes she was all storied out. Sometimes she would send us away to play for 2 minutes, we’d count exactly 120 seconds, and then go right back. We had so much fun listening to her memories.

4. What will you miss the most about ILS?

I’ll miss being at school with my sisters and I’ll miss recess too because that is a highlight of my day. I’ll miss my teachers mostly and doing things like knitting club. Luckily most of my friends are going to the same high school I am, Oakcrest.

5.  How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

There have been so many teachers! I think maybe Miss C. Davis because she’s taught me how to write essays. Before this year, I didn’t even know how to write a good essay, but she started from the ground up. Ms. Kramer helped, too, by helping me with high school applications.

 6. Do you have a favorite Hymn of the Year or Verse for Memorizing?

“I Bind Unto Myself Today” is probably my favorite – if I’m remembering correctly, that was the hymn of the year when I was in Kindergarten.
