Class of 2023: Gavin

We are in our countdown to the end of the 2022-2023 school year! It is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2023, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will share interviews with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: Gavin, ILS Class of 2023

1. How long have you attended ILS?

I’ve been here since 3rd grade.

2. What house are you in and was your favorite House competition?

I’m in Ambrose. Ultimate Frisbee is my favorite competition because I carry that for my house. You should have seen my throws. I have carried our whole house to two wins in the last two years. Granted, last year I did it by accidentally throwing the frisbee over the fence... twice... but we still won.

3. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

My favorite memory is when I made this insane basket. I kicked a soccer ball from all the way across the blacktop and it actually went into the basket. That was on the last day of school and everyone went wild with cheering. Fun times!

4. What will you miss the most about ILS?

Recess. It’s going to be hard to not have a recess when I’m in high school. But actually, I will also miss the Art of Manliness sessions with Mr. Hageman. I also wish we did “attend-dance” in the morning every day like we’ve done sometimes this year. When Mr. Hageman is calling your name during attendance, you have to dance, and if you don’t, then he marks you tardy.

5.  How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

Ms. Curcio - we share a birthday, June 20th- and she always encourages you and is willing to help any of us with whatever we need.
