A Stone's Throw: January - February Update from Mr. and Mrs. Stone

Responding to a call from the Lutheran Church - Hong Kong Synod, former ILS Manager of Operations, Mrs. Ruth Stone, along with her husband, Lyman, are now serving as missionaries in Hong Kong. Mrs. Stone serves as a missionary and English teaching assistant in a local Lutheran school, and she and Mr. Stone together volunteer their time to support school extracurriculars, church functions and Sunday school classes, Bible study, and evangelism with the Mission of Christ Network.

Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing regular updates from the Stones as they embark on their work in Hong Kong.

Please join us in praying for Mr. & Mrs. Stone as they live and serve in the Lutheran Church-Hong Kong Synod, and especially the children, faculty, and parents in its’ associated school system.

Lutheran Schools Week: Life Together in Christ

Although our full schedule of Lutheran Schools Week activities have been hampered by the snow, ILS and her families still join the nearly 2,300 LCMS preschools, elementary schools and high schools throughout the country celebrating this week. This year’s theme, Life Together in Christ, provides the opportunity to acknowledge that Christ is the creator of our life together and has sustained the our community for more than 70 years.

The theme verse for the week:

"God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord" (I Cor. 1:9 ESV)

...focuses our attention on the joyful fellowship we have with one another, centered on Christ crucified.

Reflection on Leisure by Mr. Schultz

I love taking walks. With Ben in the stroller, we’ll walk to the library in Shirlington where we’ll spend anywhere from ten minutes to an hour (all depending on Ben’s mood). This usually is a daily occurrence. I find much peace and delight in my strolls, and it’s also during these strolls when I do a lot of my praying. At the library, most often I’ll read the newspaper, but occasionally I’ll pull a book off the shelf and read snippets of it. Especially when reading the newspaper, it can really put my own personal life into perspective.
