Meet Us Monday: Mrs. Cheere Helton

We are counting down to the start of the 2023-2024 school year, so we are continuing our Meet Us Monday blog series to introduce you to the outstanding new and returning teachers and staff who will be working alongside you and your children each day this year.

We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Cheere Helton as our 4th Grade Teacher. Mrs. Helton comes to ILS from Providence Christian School of Texas (Dallas). She and her husband are parents to 3 ILS students.

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Helton to ILS!

  1. What is your position at ILS?

I am the 4th grade teacher.

  2. What are you most looking forward to about working at ILS?
I'm most looking forward to teaching an age group I haven't had the opportunity to teach! My son is in 4th grade, and I'm looking forward to getting to know him in a new environment as well.

  3. What book are you currently reading?
The book on my nightstand is Traitor King by Andrew Lownie, but what I'm really reading is Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH to the kids at night before bed.

  4. What was a favorite thing you did this summer?
Exploring DC with my kids and finally seeing so much of the history we've been reading about for years has been great!

  5. What is one place you would like to visit but have not yet been?
    Scotland

  6. What was your favorite subject/class when you were in school? Who was a teacher who inspired you?
History has always been my favorite subject; I had a teacher in high school who used to tell us history in such a fascinating way that he'd have us spellbound. He was a natural entertainer but he also made me realize that history can be as interesting or as boring as you want to make it. I became a teacher because I wanted to teach like that.

  7. What was your favorite book as a child?
When I was 10, I bought an old copy of To Kill a Mockingbird from the library for 25 cents, but my mother wouldn't let me read it because she said its themes were too mature for me. She put it away in her closet. But one day, my twin sister and I snuck in and read it outloud to each other. I remember being so enchanted by every turn of phrase that I couldn't put it down. I think the first part of that book is pure comedy, the second half pure tragedy, and the whole thing is a masterpiece. It was the first book I delighted in because of the writing, and so it was the first book I loved.

  8. What is your favorite scripture verse?
Psalm 16:11 You have made known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
