Meet Us Monday: Mr. Anthony Kimbrough

Our Meet Us Monday blog series is back with another ILS faculty introduction!

We are delighted to welcome Mr. Anthony Kimbrough to the ILS faculty as our new substitute teacher. Mr. Kimbrough is a retired Air Force officer who started teaching after in Florida before his family returned to the Alexandria area. Mr. Kimbrough and his wife are parents to two daughters at ILS, one in 7th grade and one in Kindergarten, and were previously a part of the Immanuel community when they were last stationed in the area and their older daughter was in the Lower School.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Kimbrough to the ILS faculty!

  1. What is your position at ILS?

    Substitute Teacher

  2. What are you most looking forward to about working at ILS?
Seeing the day-to-day growth and achievement of the students. I taught PE in Florida the last 6 months of last school year, and there was no greater joy than seeing the students achieve "firsts" and develop proficiency in various sports.

As an extrovert, an added bonus is the constant, face-to-face interaction with the staff/students and offering a somewhat unique perspective as a retired military officer.

  3. What book are you currently reading?
    Animal Farm

  4. What was a favorite thing you did this summer?
Family road trip visiting 4 of the 5 Great Lakes.  Due to time constraints, Lake Ontario eluded us (temporarily).

  5. What is one place you would like to visit but have not yet been?
    New Zealand

  6. What was your favorite subject/class when you were in school? Who was a teacher who inspired you?
I was a mediocre student until "it clicked" in Mr. Bierman's 6th grade class.  Then in high school, my favorite classes were taught by Mr. Deppe:  History, Geography, and Government.

  7. What was your favorite book as a child?
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

  8. What is your favorite scripture verse?
Philippians 3:12-14.  I recite it a few times during my "26.2 mile outings," especially the last 6-8 miles.
